Celebrity sexologist Dr Eve is throwing a sexy play party for women, since for the next six weeks the country will be focused on men playing with their balls.
The popular and sometimes controversial doctor Marlene Wasserman is hosting a Dr Eve World Cup 2010 Play Party on Thursday at the new Pepper Club Hotel in Loop Street, Cape Town.
She said there would be a variety of sex toy demonstrations; women would learn what these toys were and how they could be used. They would also learn how to use condoms.
"This initiative is driven by my need to offer women a safe and professional space in which they can be educated and therefore better equipped to deal with sexuality, fun and possible high-risk behaviours that will be happening at this time of the World Cup."
She said she was concerned that there was no special campaign dealing with safe sex during this time. It has been reported that 40 000 prostitutes will visit South Africa during the tournament.
Wasserman said: "There is this great expectation on the street that sexy soccer fans will be in town.
"We need to get real, people will be out partying, and wanting to have fun and sex. This, combined with alcohol and drugs, could lead to a high-risk situation."
If people could not manage safer sex, then the message was to stay home and play with yourself.
She was shocked that the government had not embarked on a major campaign to coincide with the tournament since HIV, rape and the abuse of women were part of South Africa's culture.
She has also started a campaign with a Cape Town radio station called Play It Safe. Various celebrities and soccer players will pass on the message about the importance of safe sex.
