Struck on the way to school A schoolgirl was struck by a vehicle while on her way to class today.

This morning, tragedy struck a local community as a 16-year-old girl from Havenpark Secondary School in Shastri Park, KZN, was injured after being run over while walking to school. The incident occurred at approximately 07:58 on Dipside Road in Caneside.
According to eyewitness accounts, the young scholar was seated on the side of the road when RUSA officers arrived on the scene. She was being comforted members of the public who rushed to her side in the wake of the event.
According to RUSA, the driver of a black VW Golf 5, who has not been named told officers at the scene that the girl suddenly entered the roadway, providing her with little time to react. As a result, the tyre of the vehicle ran over the teenager's foot, leading to injuries. Witnesses at the scene described the atmosphere as tense, with many expressing disbelief over the incident.
Paramedics from Netcare 911 arrived shortly thereafter and took action to stabilise the injured scholar. She was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment, with hopes that she will make a full recovery.
