In a heartwarming, heroic response by emergency services in Verulam, members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) delivered a healthy baby boy on the pavement of the town's central business district on Sunday.

According to a RUSA statement, the drama unfolded around 15:27pm when concerned shoppers on Ireland Street alerted their operations centre about a 23-year-old woman who was in the throes of labour, visibly nearing the final stages of childbirth.

Within minutes, RUSA officers arrived on the scene, and assessed the situation. The security firm added that upon finding the distressed mother-to-be in a dire state—crowned and ready to deliver—they quickly realised they could not move her off the pavement.

Without a moment's hesitation, the officers made the brave decision to assist with the delivery right then and there, said the company. "By 15:34, amidst a backdrop of bustling shoppers and curious onlookers, a healthy baby boy weighing 2.8 kg entered the world.

The remarkable scene was not only a testament to the officers' professionalism but also a touching reminder of the fragility and beauty of life."Following the quick delivery, both the mother and her newborn son were promptly transported to a local hospital for further medical attention," said RUSA
