Cope leader Mosiuoa Lekota visits Mandela's Houghton home. "I'm proud that I was able to share time with him," he said. He said he was unable to speak to the immediate family as they were either resting or busy.

The crowd outside Madiba's Houghton home is growing and they are singing "lala Tata, ulale ngoxolo (rest Tata, rest in peace).

Wendy Serrurier says she met Madiba several times. "He always told me I was a beautiful young woman".

Some of the mourners, including Tumi Molotsi, have been outside the home since midnight or earlier. "It's part of honoring Nelson Mandela in his last journey," said Molotsi. "I hope that at least our country can be united by this," he said.

A tearful Tayla Dye says she also remembers Madiba as a "peaceful grandfather". "It's so sad because it has to come to an end, but I'm just so proud to be part of this country," she said.

There is a fairly large crowd of mourners gathered outside the Houghton home of Nelson Mandela. They are singing songs and sharing their memories of Madiba. "This is the president for the whole world, not just South Africa," said Zola Dlodlo.
