Johannesburg - A domestic worker has been found dead in a cupboard at the house where she worked in Glenvista in the south of Joburg.

Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said Maboithatelo Taele had been found by her employer on Friday afternoon.

Dlamini said she was bound and gagged during a house robbery and then stuffed inside the cupboard while the robber or robbers took a safe which contained a gun. No other valuables were stolen.

Elsie, as she was affectionately known, had no visible injuries and it is believed that she suffocated.

Xolani Gumede said his wife had discovered the body. He said they felt as if they had lost a member of their own family. “She was like a part of the family. My three-year-old son preferred her (Elsie) over his mom.”

Taele’s family lives in Lesotho and her brother has been informed of the murder. Eyewitness News was reporting on Friday that her death had been an “inside job”, but Dlamini said there was no evidence of this yet.
