The letter, "When will City reopen Long Street Baths?“, published in the Cape Argus on April 6, 2021, refers.
The City’s Recreation and Parks Department is aware of the Long Street Swimming Pool’s popularity, and we are doing what we can to ensure this grand old dame will once again delight visitors.
The pool requires large-scale repairs to its cash registers, pool filters, electrical supply, water pipes, fire equipment and building infrastructure and cannot open until the work is complete.
Due to the scope of the repairs, at this stage, we are unable to provide a re-opening time frame.
Long Street Pool is one of the oldest swimming pools with heritage significance in the City, having been around since 1908. Therefore, we give careful consideration when doing repairs to avoid compromising an already ageing infrastructure.
When the current work completes, the department will conduct an overall conditional assessment of the facility to devise a long term plan for maintenance.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
