Gun association to stage protest

May 19, 2009 Edition 1

The Black Gun Owners Association of South Africa will stage a protest march against aspects of the Firearm Control Act, a spokesman said yesterday.

It was hoped the event would draw 10 000 participants in Durban on Friday, said BGOASA national chairman Abios Khoele.

"Supporters will tender a list of grievances which needs to be addressed by the Minister of Safety and Security." The list demands that confiscated firearms be audited and a full report tabled to BGOASA and the public.

The association was also demanding immediate talks with the minister. The June 30 deadline for licence renewal must be rescinded, and the criminalisation of law-abiding, taxpaying gun owners must stop. - Sapa
