Five injured in Stellenbosch crash

Five people were injured in a head-on collision on the R44 in Blackheath near Stellenbosch on Saturday, Western Cape paramedics said.
"It seems like the two cars were travelling in opposite directions when the accident occurred," said ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson.
"Paramedics who were on scene were trying to determine how the accident could have happened, but were slightly stumped as there is quite a large middle island between the two lanes of the carriage way."
Jackson said the occupants of the vehicles were pulled out of their wreckage by bystanders.
A man was treated for serious chest injuries on the scene before being airlifted to hospital.
The other four injured, three men and a woman, were taken to hospital by ambulance. - Sapa
